Mining and Remediation Research Project
Carbon Lock Tech has received funding from the Manitoba Mineral Development Fund to advance research into innovative carbon‑management solutions for the mining sector. The project, Building a Biochar Ecosystem with Communities to Support Mining Growth, will explore how patented pyrolytic reactor technology can convert biomass into biochar for permanent carbon sequestration and beneficial reuse at mine sites.
The work will focus on biochar‑based approaches for mine‑site remediation, tailings management, and soil restoration, while supporting long‑term environmental performance and operational resilience. A core element of the project is collaboration with Indigenous communities, advancing economic reconciliation through partnership‑driven project development. Key activities include mine‑site profiling, stakeholder engagement, applied technical research, and pilot‑project planning. The project was recognized by MMDF for its strong partnerships, sustainability focus, and potential to support responsible mining growth in Manitoba.
